Driving In Winter? Pack A Breakdown Kit!

What is a breakdown kit?

A breakdown kit is a grouping of items that is packed in a vehicle to help make both driver and passengers more comfortable and safe until the vehicle can get to it’s destination. During winter, the need of a breakdown kit is increased as winter driving conditions force more breakdowns and delays.

Getting to the predetermined destination is the main goal of almost any driving trip, but what happens if half way there the vehicle either becomes disabled or delayed for an extended time? Every vehicle, especially in winter, should have a breakdown kit included when traveling on an extended trip.

A good breakdown kit includes the following:

  • Road Flares
  • Blankets
  • Water
  • Food
  • First Aid Kit
  • Medications
  • Flashlight(s)
  • Extra Batteries
  • Warm Clothing
  • Boots
  • Gloves

Other things specific to the individual travelers should be included as well. If babies or small children are along, make sure to pack extra diapers, baby wipes, toys, clothing, blankets, food, and drinks.

Being prepared for an extended delay due to a breakdown or a blockage of the road can make the difference between needing to take risks looking for help or being safe and secure.
