For a lot of drivers, paying tolls is just a part of their commute. The process can be cumbersome though when toll lanes start to backup due to everyone stopping and depositing their change or even swiping their prepaid toll card. That process is different in Washington State with their Good To Go! program.

This program allows a driver to purchase a pass for going through toll areas. They electronically deposit the dollar amount of their choice on the pass and then when they pass through the toll area, the pass is scanned and the toll amount deducted. They don’t even have to slow down as this can all be done at normal highway speeds.

Currently, there are only a couple of busy bridges that are set up on the Good To Go! system, but as the system is expanded and perfected other toll operations may be included as well. Other states have identical or similar systems and they have really proven to be a good way to keep traffic moving through and around toll areas.

Washington State’s Good To Go! system should be a benefit to pretty much everyone in the more congested areas of the state.

Right now, there are just too many people waiting for this issue to be explored further by some sort of legally governing body.

The town of Pickerington, Ohio had planned to install red light cameras at selected intersections, but there seems to be a problem. The plan, like in many communities, was to have these cameras aid in the ticketing of drivers who speed or run red lights. This is one of the more controversial programs that many communities are implementing, many people don’t like the idea of a machine being responsible for ticketing them. Well, the problem in this town is that the state owns the traffic lights that run on the main highway through town and the state of Ohio does not allow these types of cameras to be installed on their traffic lights.

In many cases, these webcam sites have become inundated with so much traffic that they have been bumped offline. There are also situations where because of the adverse weather conditions, the webcams may no longer be operational.

Here is a view from a New Orleans webcam as the Hurricane is heading inland:

Not much to see really as the weather is in some cases just too much for the cameras to handle.

Good luck to all the residents in the area from DOTwebcams.com!

Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. has given the OK for red light cameras to be installed in his town. What makes these cameras controversial is that many people dispute that they actually ran a red light, others object to them as an invasion of privacy, and others say that they cause more traffic accidents. There is some statistical data that indicates that the more dangerous and sometimes fatal broadside have decreased due to these cameras being installed, but the more minor fender bender (rear end) type of accidents have increased.
