One of the more popular and interesting vehicles on the road today is the Hummer. There are many variations and models of this all terrain vehicle inspired by its military counterpart to choose from, each having its own benefits and features. But what about owning an authentic hummer, a military hummer, the same kind used by the armed forces whether training or in a deployment situation? How does the civilian go about purchasing and legally owning one of those?
The Department of Defense states that the military Hummer is not equipped to be allowed on the public roadways due to its size and the modifications made to it in order for it to be used by the military. It is possible to legally own a military hummer, however, and the only places to usually get one are through military surplus channels or from a company that has received one through its status as a trader with the military. These models are still not intended for public use, but they find their way into public hands regardless of that fact.
Practically the only place for the common person to get a military hummer is at a military hummer auction. These can either be run by a government agency, or by a business that buys hummers up with the purpose of reselling them at auction. The price for used military hummers can still be very high.
Even though the military hummer, or humvee, was never intended to make its way into the public’s hands… it has so and will continue to do so.
