Washington State’s No-Texting Law Goes Into Effect

by @ 5:46 pm. Filed under Roadway Safety

Washington State is the latest state to institute a law against text-messaging while driving. This is a secondary offense, meaning that you cannot be pulled over for text messaging while driving, but if you are observed swerving or performing other dangerous actions while driving and texting you can then be written two tickets: one for the dangerous action and one for text messaging while driving.

This seems like a common sense law, as to text message while driving it requires you to take your eyes off the road for a significant amount of time, but it has become more of a problem in recent years.

Now Accepting Boat Donations For Charity

Now Accepting Boat Donations For Charity

We’re looking to spread the word about a wonderful charity operation today. The charity we’re referring to is BoatAngel. BoatAngel accepts boat donations and then arranges to sell them through the online auction giant eBay with all of the proceeds going to distribute animated Christian children’s DVDs. Boatangel arranges for not only the production and other costs associated with the production of these Free DVDs, but also does not charge shipping on all outgoing DVD orders.

Charity boat donations are a great way to not only help those in need, but also put more money directly into the pockets of worthwhile charities. One of the major concerns when deciding on charities to support is finding out how much of your donation goes to those in need and how much goes to administrative and other expenses for the charity itself. BoatAngel reports its administration costs at less than 5% of the money it takes in. So, when you donate through BoatAngel, 95% of the value of your donation goes directly to the charity for their work.

So, if you or someone you know has an extra boat that is unused or in need of repairs, don’t hesitate to contact BoatAngel to see if you can help. The tax write off you are eligible to receive is an additional benefit.

Classic Connecticut Scene By Webcam

by @ 11:29 pm. Filed under Must-See Webcams

Check out the scene visible on any number of the Saybrook Point (Saybrook, Connecticut) webcams.  Great scene of Northeastern United States… right on the water.  There is a beautiful pier located here that must give just an incredible view out over the Atlantic Ocean.  A real nicely thought out webcam.

Need Information? Maybe A License Plate Search Service Is For You

by @ 5:26 pm. Filed under Recommendations

You need to find out reliable information about someone and decided to do some research on the internet, but where do you go after typing their name into a search engine doesn’t bring you the results you want or can use? Whether you need the information for a legal case (debt collection, divorce proceedings, traffic accidents, etc.) or just for business or personal needs (background information, employee information, etc.) you can always use the reliable method of doing a license plate search.

Performing a license plate lookup can be a good way to get information on other things as well; information on a new or used car you are considering purchasing, information on an abandoned vehicle that may be parked near or on your property, information on a lost or stolen car, plus many other reasons. You could even use this reverse license plate search service to investigate the people your kids are hanging out with or possibly a cheating spouse.

When you are in need of information on someone, the internet is a great place to go. But, without knowing what services are available or even what kind of research possibilities you can use, you are probably not going to get the results you need.

How Much Use Do Traffic Cameras Get?

by @ 6:26 pm. Filed under Commentary

There is often debate as to whether a state agency should invest the money to upgrade or initiate a program of traffic web cams for the public to view. It is quite expensive and any good steward of public money wants to use those funds in the most beneficial way possible.

How used are traffic cameras? Well, during a winter snow that dumped 1-2 feet of snow in different locations around the State of Washington, followed by buckets of rain causing very poor driving conditions including washouts of bridges, avalanches, and more… the State of Washington traffic camera page received so many hits (visitors) that it was forced offline, unable to keep up with the networking resources needed. That tells us that there are more than a few people who do use these great resources to garner information on roadway conditions.

Traffic cameras are a definite must in today’s modern world.

Driving In Winter? Pack A Breakdown Kit!

Driving In Winter? Pack A Breakdown Kit!

What is a breakdown kit?

A breakdown kit is a grouping of items that is packed in a vehicle to help make both driver and passengers more comfortable and safe until the vehicle can get to it’s destination. During winter, the need of a breakdown kit is increased as winter driving conditions force more breakdowns and delays.

Getting to the predetermined destination is the main goal of almost any driving trip, but what happens if half way there the vehicle either becomes disabled or delayed for an extended time? Every vehicle, especially in winter, should have a breakdown kit included when traveling on an extended trip.

A good breakdown kit includes the following:

Other things specific to the individual travelers should be included as well. If babies or small children are along, make sure to pack extra diapers, baby wipes, toys, clothing, blankets, food, and drinks.

Being prepared for an extended delay due to a breakdown or a blockage of the road can make the difference between needing to take risks looking for help or being safe and secure.
